History of Rubber Ducks
The song "Rubber Duckie", sung by Ernie from Sesame Street, helped make rubber ducks massively popular in the USA and other parts of the world.
It has been reported that Queen Elizabeth II has a rubber duck in her bath room. The rubber duck in question has an inflatable crown.
For many people, Rubber ducks are collector's items. A large number of different types of rubber ducks has developed, such as devil ducks, Santa ducks, dead ducks, and ducks the imitate real people like Elvis. The world record for the most rubber ducks is 2,587.
Rubber duck races have become hugely popular all over the world, with rubber ducks being placed in a lake, river or pond and allowed to float through a course. The winner is the rubber duck that passes the finish line first. In 2006, London had its first ever rubber duck charity race. 20,000 ducks raced from Battersea Park. Proceeds went to Nightingale House, which is a care home for the elderly in south-west London.
In the United States, races like the Rubber Duck Derby are very popular and raise millions for charity. The Rubber Duck Derby has raised over $140 million for charity.

How to Throw a Rubber Ducky Themed Baby Shower
Nothing conjures up memories of childhood quite like the iconic yellow "rubber ducky". What better way to welcome a new little one into the world than to have a rubber ducky themed baby shower? Below you'll find several ways to incorporate this cute lovable character into the festivities!
1. Decorations - Aside from the normal store purchased rubber ducky themed items like balloons and tableware, there are plenty of opportunities to get creative with this theme. Instead of plastering the room with ducky shaped items, opt for bright blue and yellow tablescapes. For example, have large white circular place mats (representing bubbles) blue plates and bright yellow napkins. The use of color still carries the theme across with out being overly bold.
2. Centerpieces - With the rubber ducky theme, DIY-ing your own centerpieces are a breeze. Several mirrors in varying size circles can be scattered across the center of your tables (carrying on the bubble motif). Fill a couple of round fish bowls with some water (get that bold blue by adding food dye), add in some floating rubber ducks and your done! You might be tempted to add some dish detergent for a bubble effect but these will soon dissipate.
3. Games - Continue this fun theme into your games by playing "Lucky Ducks" Purchase an aluminum drink bucket (similar in style to the type used at outdoor BBQs) and fill with water. In advance, compile a number of questions. Write several possible answers on the bottoms of store bought rubber duckys. Float the ducks in the bucket and have your guests come and select a duck. The one with the correct answer wins! You could vary this game by asking your guests to bob for the ducks, but this can get messy! Alternatively, you might want to purchase a baby tub that the mommy-to-be can use later!
4. Dessert - Whether you are opting to DIY or purchase your dessert, you can easily incorporate this theme into your tasty treats. DIY cake molds and cupcake toppers are available at local craft stores and are easy to use. Alternatively, if you are having your local baker make your cake, discuss the party theme with them in advance. If you don't want a bold variation of theme on your cake, opt for a large rubber ducky as a cake topper and have a more subtle cake design.
With the numerous ways you are able to incorporate the rubber ducky theme into your baby shower, it is easy to make a memorable image from your childhood a part of your little one's bright beginning. Don't forget to continue your theme by giving your guests adorable baby shower favors!
